Braves Mired in Losing Skid as Season Wanes

The Atlanta ballclub finds itself in sorry state this week, having dropped a sixth game running and standing now at but fifty wins against one and seventy losses, fifth of the six clubs in their division of the National League. It is a dispiriting turn for a franchise that but a season past held greater ambition.

Talk about the taverns and the ballpark alike turns upon the leadership of Manager Haas, whose direction of the club has come under increasing scrutiny as the losses have mounted. Whether the club's proprietors shall let the season run its course under his hand, or seek some change before the year is out, is a matter upon which this correspondent shall not presume to wager -- though he notes the whispers grow louder with each defeat.

The faithful who yet fill the seats at the ballpark are urged to recall that baseball, like fortune, is a wheel that turns; but they may be forgiven their impatience at present.
